BELIEF AND ISLAM

This work, Belief and Islam, originally was written in Persian under the title I’tiqâd-nâma by Hadrât Mawlânâ Khâlid al-Baghdâdî, a profound ‘âlim of Islam and a specialist in ma’ârif of tasawwuf. Hâji Faydullah Effendi of Kemah, a khalîfa of great walî Mavlânâ Mahmûd Sâhib, the brother of the author, translated the book into Turkish and named it Farâid-ul-fawâid which was printed in Istanbul in 1312 A.H.[1894]. Our bookstore had it translated again from the Persian original into Turkish and, some explanations and three chapters, published it with the title Imân ve Islâm in 1966. German, French and Arabic versions are also published by our bookstore. This book, explains five fundamentals of Islam, six fundamentals of îmân and the contemporary information about the matter and refutes those who are against Islam and those who are lâ-madbhabî.

QUR’AN AL-KARIM and TODAY’s GOSPELS

Protestants are trying to prove that the Biblical commands and injunctions are superior to the commands and injunctions of the religion of Musa ‘alaihis-salam’ (Mosaic Laws) by comparing them from their own unilateral viewpoints. Then, attempting to test whether the commandments in Qur’an al-karim are superior to the Biblical commandments and injunctions, they say:”The value and the significance of any cause is proportional to the soundness and the convincing power of the evidences put forward [to prove the cause]. All the owners of wisdom have adapted their daily affairs to these rules. For instance, if an expert claims that he has invented a new weapon which is stronger and has a longer range than the old ones, a country that must improve her weaponry will not accept the weapon without testing it. The assertion that Islam is superior to Christianity is exactly like this. It is unreasonable, unwise to accept Islam blindly in haste without giving it a test on a weighing apparatus. Therefore, it is necessary to subject the commandments in Qur’an al-karim to accurate experimentation to see whether they are superior to and better than those declared in the Bible. If the result is that Qur’an al-karim is greater as has been presumed, it will be necessary to abandon the Bible and to embrace Qur’an al-karim.”

Islam and Science

The most important reason why prophets and holy books were sent and the first command that is absolutely necessary to be communicated is to declare that the Creator of the heavens and earth exists, that He is one, that He has superior attributes such as knowledge and others, and that His power and greatness are infinite. Because most people believe the things which they see and hear as they see and hear them and cannot understand their inner natures and delicate particulars, Allahu ta’ala, in His books, described the moon, the sun and the stars, which are the symptoms of His existence and greatness, the biggest and the most obvious creatures, which amaze people very much and which seem precise in every respect, so that every sort of people could understand them. By not explaining their calculations, laws and inner natures, He did not force the ignorant majority to busy themselves with the things which they could not understand, and He encouraged the intelligent, wise and distinguished among mankind in every century to understand them by studying them. Man’s discoveries have been changing in process of time; those discoveries that were thought of as correct and dependable at one time have been understood to be wrong afterwards. Because the people of each century have believed in the correctness of the latest discoveries of their time, the beliefs of each century has been different from those of the others; these beliefs did not become sins or a matter of disbelief, for the beliefs that are sinful are those which disagree with the prophets’ books and which deny what is stated in them. To protect His slaves against disbelief and sins, Allahu ta’ala did not explain scientific knowledge, which not everybody could understand, in His books, but He only pointed it out, and by describing the earth, the sun and the skies as they appear, He commanded us to take a warning from them and to understand His existence and His greatness…

HUSEYIN HILMI BIN SA’ÎD
“RAHMATULLAHI ALAIH”

He disseminated throughout the world his Turkish, German, French, English and offset-reproduced Arabic books and received thousands of letters expressing appreciation, congratulations and thanks. Some of his works were translated into Japanese, Asian and African languages. He always said that he had neither the ability nor efficiency, and that all the services do ne were the results of the spiritual help and grace of Hadrat Sayyid ‘Abdulhakîm Effendi and the blessings ensuing from his excessive love and respect for the scholars of Islam.Hüseyn Hilmi Effendi constantly said that he found the taste in the suhba and words of Sayyid ‘Abdulhakîm Effendi in nothing else and that the most pleasant moments he enjoyed were when he remembered those sweet days he had spent with Sayyid ‘Abdulhakîm Effendi. He said his nasal bones ached out of the grief of separation and yearning when he remembered those days…
